Three Reasons To Remove A Tree From Your Back Yard

Construction & Contractors Blog

Trees are an excellent addition to any home's outdoor space, providing shade and gorgeous landscaping. Occasionally, there comes a time when you have to remove a tree from your yard. Most arborists prefer to focus on preserving trees, as tree removal can be tricky or even dangerous, depending on the tree's location. Here are a few reasons you may want to remove a tree from your backyard.

1. The Tree Is Too Close to Other Trees

Unfortunately, a tree is sometimes planted with little regard for how much space the tree will need when fully grown. Trees that are planted too close to one another cannot grow properly. The roots may grow shallow, making the tree more likely to fall.

They will also compete for resources, such as sunlight and water; if you do not remove a tree, you may lose all of the trees in this area due to a lack of space and resources.

Talk with an experienced arborist to determine which tree needs to go if you are concerned your trees are overcrowded. Your arborist can help you identify which trees you can save and which ones can peacefully grow alongside one another.

2. The Tree Is Growing in a Dangerous Spot

It is easy to underestimate the full growth potential of a tree. Or, perhaps additional infrastructure and buildings were added after the tree was initially planted. Regardless of the contributing factors, you may have a tree that is growing in a spot that is dangerous. Trees that are too close to power lines are one example of a dangerous growing situation.

Do not try to remove trees that are growing in hazardous spots on your own. This work can be deadly when performed incorrectly, and you can cause damage to the surrounding structures if the tree behaves unexpectedly when it falls.

3. The Tree Is in Poor Health and Cannot Be Saved

In some cases, you can save trees that are in poor health. Proper trimming and checking that the tree has the correct type of soil, the recommended amount of water, and the necessary sunlight can all do wonders in healing a tree that is sick.

However, trees that have been in poor health for extended periods of time may be too far gone too save. This is often true for trees that are suffering from fungal infections or diseases. Instead, you may need to have these trees removed so that they do not infect surrounding trees or fall and damage nearby buildings.
