If you are concerned about the state of your air conditioner, you should consider having it inspected. When an air conditioning system fails during warmer months, you may have to endure days of discomfort in your own home. Thus, at the first sign of a problem, it is often best to call a professional HVAC technician. Here are a few indicators that your air conditioning system needs to be checked right away:
Your thermostat in your air conditioning system has stopped communicating.
If you are setting your thermostat to a certain temperature, and your air conditioning system does not respond to the new setting, the system should be professionally checked. The thermostat of your system may have failed.
A thermostat replacement is usually not an expensive repair. However, the lack of communication between the thermostat and the air conditioning unit could stem from other issues, such as a problem with the wiring of your home. In addition, the condenser of the air conditioning system may not be working properly.
Your air conditioning system is blowing air, but the air is not cool.
If your air conditioning system is blowing warm air into your home, the refrigerant of the system may need to be refilled. Refrigerants, such as Freon, can become depleted over time. A professional HVAC technician will be able to inspect your system to determine the level of refrigerant that is currently present. If the level is too low, he or she can add additional refrigerant.
There is air flowing freely from some of the vents in your home, but other vents have restricted air flow.
When air does not blow uniformly throughout your home, some rooms may be uncomfortable, and other rooms may be too cool. This is often caused by debris in the ducts. The ductwork of your air conditioning system can be professionally cleaned to remove dust and contaminants. In some instances, some areas of your ductwork may even be fully blocked.
Inadequate air flow can also be related to holes in the air conditioner ducts. If a hole develops in the ductwork, there may be cool air escaping beneath your home before it can enter your interior living space.
Your air conditioning system is making unusual noises that you have not heard before.
If your air conditioning system has started to make new noises, such as rattles, clanks or bangs, the system may have a loose part. The vibrations of an air conditioning system can cause some of its components to loosen over time. If a part becomes loose enough, it may detach completely. An HVAC repair person can check the system and make the necessary adjustments.
If you have noticed that your air conditioning system is not operating in its usual manner, schedule an appointment with an HVAC technician in your area.Share
